Richard Carson
Executive Director, for the Alabama
State Society of Anesthesiologists
Mr. Carson has led the state organization for four years. Prior to
that, he spent six years as a staff member of the Medical Association
of the State of Alabama and is a former staffer for U.S. Senator Richard
Shelby (R-Ala.). Mr. Carson is a graduate of the University of North
Alabama, with a B.S. degree in political science and history. He holds
a master’s degree in public administration from the University
of Central Florida.
Wesley T. Frazier, M.D.
Associate Professor, Department of Anesthesiology,

Dr. Frazier is a nationally respected innovator in anesthesia, particularly
in information technology (IT), and was instrumental in the design
of the first anesthesia computerized patient record (CPR) in the U.S.
Dr. Frazier is a graduate of Yale University.
Karen Ondo, FHIMSS

Ms. Ondo was previously Vice President & Chief Information Officer
at North Broward Hospital District. Ms. Ondo has over 25 years
of healthcare technology, system business and clinical experience
including planning, management, operation, personnel and budgetary
accountabilities. Ms. Ondo holds a Bachelor of Science in Major Medical
Technology from the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University.
Michael O'Reilly, M.D., M.S.

Dr. O'Reilly is considered a leader in the field of anesthesia and
clinical information systems and his research, abstracts and papers
have been widely published. Dr. O'Reilly attended the University Of
Vermont College Of Medicine.
Jeffrey S. Plagenhoef, M.D.
Chairman
of the Department of Anesthesia, Chairman of the Quality Council,
Chairman of the Credentialing Committee, President-elect of the
Medical Staff, and member of Quality and Risk Management Committee
at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, Dothan, AL.
Dr.
Plagenhoef earned his M.D. at the Medical College of Georgia in
1987. He was chief resident of Anesthesiology at the University
of Alabama at Birmingham in 1991 and earned board certification
from the American Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board
of Medical Examiners. Dr. Plagenhoef currently holds membership
in a number of professional societies, including Director Alabama
District of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA); ASA
Task Force on Reimbursement Methodology; Chair of the ASA Anesthesia
Care Team Committee; Legislative Chairman of the Alabama State Society
of Anesthesiologists (ASSA); ASSA Third Party Payer Liaison; Medicare
Carrier Advisory Committee, and Member, College of Counselors, Medical
Association of the State of Alabama.
Jerry Stonemetz, M.D.

Dr.
Stonemetz is a clinical associate and compliance officer for the
department of anesthesia and critical care medicine. Previously,
Dr. Stonemetz served as Medical Director of the Frederick
Surgical Center in Frederick, MD., and as Director of FredMed, a
Medical Service Organization, providing ancillary IT support services
for Frederick Memorial Hospital and the surrounding community physicians.
He is past president of Anesthesia Consultants, a 20-member physician-only
anesthesia corporation.
Dr. Stonemetz is founder and former Executive Vice President of
Strategic Development for LifeCare Technologies, in which he was
responsible for vendor relationships and provided oversight of product
development. During his tenure he had direct supervision of all
software and product development and implementation. A Board Certified
Anesthesiologist, Dr. Stonemetz graduated magna cum laude from Clemson
University with a B.S. degree in Zoology. He earned a Master's Degree
in Biochemistry at Clemson and attended Temple Medical School in
Philadelphia. Dr. Stonemetz completed his residency in anesthesia
at the University of California, San Francisco. He also holds a
Hopkins Business of Medicine Graduate Certificate from Johns Hopkins
Medical School.
Matthew Weinger, M.D.
Professor
of Anesthesiology,
Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education; Director of the Center
for Medical Simulation and Director of the Center for Perioperative
Health Services Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center
in Nashville, Tennessee.
Before
joining Vanderbilt's department of anesthesiology in 2005, Dr. Weinger
served as director of the San Diego Center for Patient Safety; professor
of anesthesiology at the University of California, San Diego; director
of the Anesthesiology Ergonomics Research Laboratory and staff physician
for the San Diego Veterans Administration Healthcare System; research
scientist for the Veterans Medical Research Foundation; and an Adjunct
Associate Member of the Department of Neuropharmacology at The Scripps
Research Institute in La Jolla, California.
Dr. Weinger is the co-chair of the Association for the Advancement
of Medical Instrumentation Human Factors Committee; a member of
the Board of Directors of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation;
associate examiner of the American Board of Anesthesiologists; member
of the Patient Safety and Risk Management Committee of the American
Society of Anesthesiologists; member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics
Society; member of the ASTM F29 Standards Committee (Anesthesia
and Respiratory Devices). In addition, he is the past president
of the Society for Technology in Anesthesiology. Dr. Weinger is
the recipient of the James S. Todd Memorial Award for Patient Safety
Research, National Patient Safety Foundation; was elected to the
Association of University of Anesthetists; and was named the American
Society of Anesthesiologists' Young Investigator by the Parker B.
Francis Foundation. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical
engineering and a Master of Science degree in biology (neurosciences)
from Stanford University in the same year (1979) and received his
M.D. from the University of California, San Diego in 1982.
Dwayne Westenskow, PhD.
Professor of Anesthesiology, University
of Utah
Dr. Westenskow is one of the most well regarded anesthesia bioengineers
in the country, specializing in integration of physiologic monitors
with graphical display technology. Dr. Westenskow holds a Ph.D. in
Bioengineering from University of Utah and a B.S. in Physics from
Brigham Young University.
