Harborview Medical Center Implements Latest Release of the DocuSys Solution to Improve Anesthesia Medication Safety and Documentation
(Mobile, Ala. and Seattle, Wash.)—DocuSys, Inc., a leading anesthesia information management system (AIMS) and medication management system provider, today announced that Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Wash., the only Level I adult and pediatric trauma center serving a four-state region went live yesterday on DocuSys’ anesthesia solutions, which will automate the documentation of anesthesia care and enhance the medication management processes in their perioperative (surgical) environment.
In support of its designation as a “Patient Safety Mentor Hospital” for other hospitals in the state of Washington, Harborview Medical Center chose to implement DocuSys’ advanced medication safety solution including DocuJect®, a point-of-care intravenous drug monitoring device, in addition to its AIMS application. DocuJect utilizes digital imaging and bar code scanning to proactively alert the clinician to potential adverse drug reactions. DocuSys’ medication safety solutions are focused on enabling healthcare organizations to implement the recommendations outlined in last year’s U.S. Pharmacopeia MEDMARX® Data Report to reduce perioperative medication error rates.
“We are committed to delivering the safest, most comprehensive anesthesia care to each of our patients, and the addition of the DocuSys solutions enables Harborview Medical Center to more effectively meet this objective,” said Dr. Michael Souter, associate professor of Anesthesiology, Neurocritical Care, at Harborview Medical Center and anesthesiology project lead. “Having DocuSys share the anesthesiology record electronically with our electronic medical record system enables Harborview Medical Center to ensure continuity of care.”
The ability to share clinical information among clinical system vendors has become a more important requirement over the past few years as healthcare organizations have made decisions to select a best-of-breed solution for key areas like anesthesiology. For Harborview Medical Center, the ability to integrate with their electronic medical record system was a key criterion in selecting DocuSys. According to DocuSys Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Joseph E. Heins, Pharm.D., the company has the broadest experience of any anesthesia information system vendor in providing this information in both a comprehensive anesthesia record format and as discrete data for key elements of the record.
“Harborview Medical Center is well known within Washington, as well as nationally, for delivering the best possible care to its patients,” Heins said. “As the first client live on the latest release of our market-leading solutions, Harborview Medical Center worked closely with DocuSys to ensure the system was carefully configured to meet their advanced requirements. We are proud that Harborview Medical Center recognized the benefits of the DocuSys anesthesia solutions to enable them to augment their high standard of care.”
